Cleo – Spencer 65F; Mermaid Bra

cleo spencer longline
If you are a woman with an access to internet and you use at least one social media platform, then you are fully aware of the fantastic beasts and entities are all the rage in fashion: mermaid, unicorn, and fairy-themed thing are occupying store shelves. It is long since mermaid bikini bras shaped like seas shells popped up, but I wished for a more D+ friendly interpretation of the trend – cue Panache, all in white. All in ink, actually.

Spencer is a longline balconette with padded cups – the cut is definitely the cheese to textured fabric macaroni; pattern on the cups is the backbone of the style, not the cups themselves. The design has a sporty, modern feel, yet is elegant enough to look good peeking out of a white button down.

When I attended a June 2017 trade show I was told Spencer and other longlines will have shortened bands dues to the consumers complaining about it rolling up uncomfortably. I was curious as to how will it work for me, as I am a fan of longlines yet have to constantly pull down the funky bands. The band does roll up a bit, although not enough to be an issue (I definitely pull it down less than in other bras), does not bother me at all. There are pieces of boning sewn in under the cups that are supposed to keep the band in place, but it doesn’t really work that well or cause any issues. I would dare to say that actually has the band fold up right where the boning ends.

I am really happy that Spencer has three hooks in a row – that is my optimal number and since I had to size down from FF to F I feel much less comfortable in two-hook fastenings and relatively arrow bands. Spencer has the perfect band width and provides support I haven’t felt in a good while. Band is made from elastic tulle but works nice and doesn’t stretch out that much.

One thing that made me fall in love with this bra and what causes me to wish upon a star for more bras in the same cut in the future – that shaping! Wow, I looked for years for a bra that would make my boobs look so good! Ski slope cleavage is the effect I always envied when I looked at Madź’s boobs and was unattainable for me with a ton of padding. For this I give Spencer not five, but six hearts, since I am ecstatic. I don’t know, what exactly makes my breasts look so great (I suspect horizontal seams) but Spencer automatically becomes one of my TOP 3 best shaping bras. Cups are a bit closed off at the top and cut in a bit which in turn might suggest the cups are too small, but 30FF would be way too big. That’s just the cut disagreeing a bit with my body, but I am not going to hold it against the bra, since my boobs hypnotize me.

What made me pay attention to Spencer in the first place was the geometric pattern on the fabric that looks a bit like fish scale from afar. I hope Spencer will come out in green and mint, since with the trend for mermaid-themed stuff the bra is already a bestseller (my Dutch friend who owns a lingerie shop told me confidentially that this is the best selling bra in the history of her shop) and made in aquatic-inspired hues will make the redheads of this world swoon.

The bow is a bit stubborn – tends to skew a bit 😉

Is Panache going to make high-waisted briefs to match? I really hope so, since a longline with such panties is always a killer look. For now we have umnentionables with semitransparent sides. I am not a big fan of the cut, I prefer classic briefs or thongs instead of the combination of the two, but these are not bad. Just not my style 😉

In Poland Spencer is priced at around 200 PLN – that is very, very affordable for such quality and design, I anticipated a much higher price, especially given how Polish bras are getting rpicier by the season (I can point out several Polish brands where Spencer would be a bargain without a promo like that).

In the autumn we can expect Spencer in steel-gray, truly a Viking-mermaid; here is to many future reincarnations of the bra!
